There is already a law passed (AB 347), signed by Gov. Newsom, enacted in 2025 that bans PFAS in juvenile products, textiles, and food packaging. I remember because on January 1st 2025, a whole bunch of hiking boots (which are classified as textiles or juvenile products?) could not be shipped here to California.

I guess this new law was a bit too broad in scope to sign, but it follows previous legislation.

    My guess is that, consistent with many other things Newsom has been doing, he's trying to bolster his obvious presidential aspirations by avoiding something that might become a right wing talking point. "He'll take away our pans!"
